Canterbury Christ Church University is an Anglican new university in Canterbury, Kent, England. Founded as a Church of England college for teaching training in 1962, it has grown to full university status and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012. This University is an Accredited Provider for the following Graduate and Registered Training Programmes which are all employment based routes into teaching: -Salary and Training Grant Training Programme -Training Grant Only Programme -Overseas Trained Teacher Programme -Registered Teacher Programme GTP (Graduate Training Programme) Under This Program Trainees are employed by a school as a supernumerary unqualified teacher, and are supported by a salary grant from the Training and Development Agency for Schools. The school assumes responsibility for training, supplemented by a number of taught days provided by the University. The University monitors the training and acts as the Accredited Recommending Body (ARB) for the award of Qualified Teacher Status. This programme is available for those wishing to train from Early Years to Post-16. All Trainees are required to train in two consecutive key stages ranging from Early Years to Post-16, and to gain experience in a contrasting second school. Maintained Primary, Secondary and Special Schools as well as Independent Schools can apply to train a teacher as part of the scheme, although Independent Schools do not receive a grant and thus self finance a trainee on the programme. The University makes a judgement on each school application based on the school’s ability to meet the requirements of delivering an employment based training programme. Schools initially select and interview applicants that they wish to train. All applicants then have a subsequent University interview.
