The University of Calicut is an affiliating university located at Thenjipalam in Malappuram district of Kerala state in India

Dr. M Abdul Salam has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of the Calicut University.

Abdul Salam is an agricultural scientist, specialising in the areas of Agronomy.

He did his graduation from the University of Kerala and M Sc Agronomy from Kerala Agricultural University in 1976 and PhD in Agronomy in 1984 from the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. He did his post-doctorate from the University of Aberdeen, UK, in 1992.
