Re: Calcutta University Genetics Department

Department of Genetics at Calcutta University provides an opportunity to absorb knowledge from experts in different fields and maintains a high academic standard.

It offers two years duration M.Sc Genetics Program .

The number of student intake is 10; 60% for students from University of Calcutta and the rest open to all other universities including the home university.

Eligibilty criteria

Applicants must have done B.Sc. Hons. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physics or Physiology , Anthropology, Botany, Zoology, or its equiv.

Applicants must have Chemistry as one of the General subjects (except the Applicants with Hons in Chemistry / Bio Chemistry) at the under Graduate level. The candidates with M.B.B.S./B.Sc. (Ag) are also eligible.

Applicants must have obtained 50% marks in B.Sc. (Hons.) and minimum 60% marks in average in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or its equivalent.

Applicants belongs to both C.U. and Non-C.U. (Both Category A & Category B) have to appear in the Entrance Test.

Selection Procedure


The Entrance Test is mandatory for both C.U. and Non-C.U. Applicants.

Final Selection will be based on 20% of weightage in 10+2 level exam and 30% weightage to be taken from the percentage of marks secured in Honours subject of 3 year Bachelor's Degree course and 50% of weightage percentage of marks obtained in the Entrance Test.

Average percentage of marks obtained in four subjects. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics & Biology
