Re: Bumble Bee
A bumblebee is a member of the bee genus Bombus, in the family Apidae. This genus is the only extant group in the tribe Bombini, though a few extinct related genera (e.g., Calyptapis) are known from fossils. Bumblebees have round bodies covered in soft hair called pile, making them appear and feel fuzzy. Scientific classification Kingdom Animalia Phylum Arthropoda Class Insecta Order Hymenoptera Family Apidae Subfamily Apinae Tribe Bombini Genus Bombus According to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), the term "bumblebee" was first recorded as having been used in the English language in the 1530 work Lesclarcissement by John Palsgrave |
