The IIT Kanpur has a telecom center of BSNL. The BSNL IITK Telecom Centre of Excellence (BITCOE) , at IIT Kanpur, was established on 12th December 2007.

This center is established with the signing of a tri-partite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Telecommunication, Government of India, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), during the inauguration ceremony of India Telecom 2007.

BSNL IITK Telecom Centre of Excellence is provides focuses on Multimedia and Telecom, Cognitive Radio and Computational Mathematics' to build excellence which is at par with world standards.
