The Tezpur University has a Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. This MBBT department of Tezpur University was inaugurated on July 24, 1997.

This department has been recognized by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, and granted accreditations for the Post Graduate programme.

The department offers two-year M. Sc degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, 5 year Integrated M.Sc in Bioscience and Bioinformatics and PhD in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.
