The George Mason University was founded as a branch of the University of Virginia in 1957 and it got its independent indentity in 1972. Today, it is recognized for its strong programs in economics, law, creative writing, computer science, and business. The Biology Courses offered by GMU (George Mason University) are as follows: Biology, B.A. Concentration in Biology Education (with Licensure) (BIED) Biology, B.S. Concentration in Biology Education (with Licensure) (BIED) Concentration in Biopsychology (BP) Concentration in Biotechnology and Molecular Biology (BTMB) Concentration in Environmental and Conservation Biology (ESCB) Concentration in Microbiology (MIB) Medical Laboratory Science, B.S. Biology, B.S./Biology, Accelerated M.S. Minor in Biology Admission General Requirements Cumulative high school grade point average (GPA) for course work completed in grades 9 through 12 Level of difficulty of course work selected throughout high school very particularly in the areas of English, mathematics, social studies, laboratory science. Foreign Language Scores submitted from the SAT Reasoning Test and/or the American College Test (ACT). University receives SAT and ACT scores electronically from each testing agency. Candidates need to request scores to be sent directly from SAT and/or ACT. Candidates score reports will not be accepted. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores is required from non-native English-speaking applicants. All freshmen candidates are strongly encouraged to submit an optional “Personal Statement” of about 250 words that highlights the leadership achievements or significant service contributions to one’s high school or community. Applicants who apply online can submit the statement online when asked during the application process. Only Applicants who submit paper applications can submit a statement in paper form.
