Yes the Banaras Hindu University has a Department Of French. The department of teaching of French started at the University in 1948 at the Department of Foreign Languages.

In 1982 the BHU was established A separate Department. The faculty is actively involved in research in Comparative Literature and Translation Studies.

It proposes to offer short-term courses in spoken French, Functional French and Creative Writing.

The Department of French Studies offers full-time B.A. (Hons), M.A. and PhD Program in French.

It also offers 2 year Diploma and 2 year PG Diploma in French. Special emphasis is given in spoken French, Functional French and Creative Writing.
