VIT University was founded in 1984 as Vellore Engineering College a self-financing institution. The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development awarded it the University status as Vellore Engineering College in 2001.

B Tech Courses
B.Tech. Computer Science & Engineering (4 years)
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering (4 Year degree)
B. Tech Civil Engineering (4 Year degree)
B. Tech. Electrical and Electronics Engineering (4 years)
B.Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering (4 years)

Admission to B.Tech Degree course is based on VIT Engineering Entrance Exam (VITEEE) conducted at all India level.

Eligibility
A pass in 10+2 or its equivalent with at least average of 60% of marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology (PCM / PCB)

A pass in 10+2 or its equivalent with 50% average marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology (PCM / PCB) for students belonging to SC/ST and Candidates coming from Jammu and Kashmir and from the North Eastern States of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) students are eligible for all the courses

Advertisement regarding admission like the issue of application forms, important dates etc., is provided in all leading newspapers all over India and even notified on the VIT website.
Applications can also be obtained from selected Post Offices / may be obtained by post from VIT.
Entrance exam conducted in major cities only in India.
Publication of results on the website only
