IIMC or Indian Institute of Mass Communication is one of the premier institutes in India which provides training, teaching and research in mass communication.

It was founded in 1965 by the Government of India on the recommendation of a team of mass communication specialists from UNESCO and the Ford Foundation.

It was ranked 5th in Media Films and Mass Communication category as per Outlook survey in the year 2008

Starting salary for a mass communication professional could be between Rs 12,000 and 25,000. After 5 Years of work experience a professional can expect higher salary in the range of Rs 50,000 to Rs 1, 00,000 per month.

It encourages collaboration between industry, academia, civil society and government. It will also work towards establishing connections with similar institutes/ centers both in India and abroad.

The institute was basically set up to provide training to the officers of the Indian Information Service.
