Sorry, there are no IIT institutes in India which offers Astrophysics course.

Indian Institute of Science

Indian Institute of Science is a public university for scientific research and higher education located in Bangalore, India.

It was established in 1909 with active support from Jamsetji Tata it is also locally known as the "Tata Institute

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has an active research group in Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Currently this group has five faculty members, working in different areas of astrophysics (Arnab Rai Choudhuri, Chanda J. Jog, Banibrata Mukhopadhyay, Tarun Deep Saini, and Prateek Sharma).


It coordinate the Joint Astronomy Programme (JAP) – a programme for training PhD students in astrophysics, jointly run with several collaborating institutes.

Anyone interested in a postdoctoral position in our group can contact individual faculty members or apply for DST funded fellowships such as Kothari fellowship .

Research Areas

Cosmology, dark energy. Physics around black holes and other compact objects. Nuclear astrophysics. Galactic astronomy, interstellar matter. Plasma astrophysics, solar physics.
