If you have API 510, 570 or 653 certification, you automatically qualify to take the API 577 Advanced Welding Inspection & Metallurgy exam.

If you do not have API 510, 570 or 653 certification, then you should have one of the combinations of education and experience listed in the grid below.

Education Minimum Experience Required

BS or higher in engineering 1 year of experience in the petrochemical industry

2-year technical degree 2 years of experience in the petrochemical industry

High school diploma or equivalent 3 years of experience in the petrochemical industry

No Formal Education 4 years of experience in the petrochemical industry

API 577 Advanced Welding Inspection & Metallurgy Professional certification is valid for a three-year term.
