Amrita University To Launch Centre For Spiritual Studies

A centre for spiritual studies launched by Amrita University in Kerala at its Kollam district campus.

The centre serve to strengthen India's rich
spiritual traditions, and will be officially launched at Amritapuri as part of the three-day Amritavarsham 60.

Academic research and extension activities focused on spiritual, social and cultural development and awareness will be focused on at the centre.

The Amritavarsham 60 is the 60th birthday
celebrations organised by the Mata Amritanandamayi M ath of M ata Amritanandamayi, also known as the "hugging saint".

They promote and institutionalize selfless service-oriented education in keeping with Amma's universal message to "Love and serve".

Academic and research collaborations will take place alongside collaborations with similar centres of repute around the world.

Research activities into spiritual subjects will include the study of Sanskrit and scriptures, arts, science, technology, literature and astrology.

Study programmes in Sanatana Dharma, spirituality and culture at post-graduate and doctoral levels will be on offer.

Documentation, dissemination and spread of the universal message of Amma's life and teaching will also be done by the centre.

Amma's charitable, humanitarian and social programmes, will be assessed and studied.

Teaching of meditation and yoga like Integrated Amrita M editation Technique and Amrita Yoga will also be conducted.

The centre seek to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western knowledge systems, and institutionalise selfless service activities as part of its credit-based
curriculum.
