The Department of Physical Health and Sports Education of Aligarh Muslim University was started with a grant from U.G.C. vide letter No. F-2-1/88(SPE) dated May 31st, 1988.

This grant was made available for introduction of 3 years Degree Course in Physical Health and Sports Education.

The Department was started during 1990-91 session.

The department has currently over 100 bonafide students in its one year Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.), two years Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed.) courses and Ph.D. Programmes.

The Department has a growing research programme in the areas of sport biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor skills & sport psychology, physical activity and health, sports management and sports sociology.
