The elections for the student union of Aligarh Muslim University were held on 11th December 2017, Monday and its results were declared next day. The elections were held for the posts of president, Vice President, Secretary, cabinet and Court members. The Presidential polls witnessed a battle between BDS student Mashkoor Ahmad Usmani, research student, Abu Bakr, and BALLB student Ajay Singh, who is the grandson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Thakur Dalveer Singh. While Mashkur hails from Bihar, Abu Bakr is from Azamgarh. The contenders for the Vice President posts were M Com student Faisal Nadeem, M Tech student Rao Faraz Waris, MFC student Vikrant Johari and PhD students Sajad Subhan Rather, Vaseel K and Aijaz Ahmed. For the post of Honorary Secretary, 5 students included Adnan Aamir (BALLB), Imran Khan (MCA), Mohd Fahad (MAEBM, Syed Atif Wasfi (BALLB) and Yasir Ali Khan ((PhD) are in the fray. Of the total Universitys electorate of 18,188, 5005 belonged to the engineering faculty and 3196 are from the social science department, making their support crucial for the winning candidate. The Vice Presidents post has been grabbed by a Kashmiri student, SajadSubhan Rather, a research scholar in the department of history. Mohammad Fahad, an Agro-business student, has been elected to the Secretarys post out of five contenders. SamreenFarha, Nabila Zafar, ZaidSherwani, NajmusSaquib, Mohd Shahbaz Shafeeq, Md Nadeem, Farhan Zuberi, Zohaib Ahmad, Syed Md Shahbaz and Mateen Ashraf were elected as AMUSU Cabinet Members. |
