Re: AIIMS Eye Bank
Hey as The National Eye Bank, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi was founded by Prof L.P. Agarwal in 1965. The National Eye Bank, The National Eye Bank, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi is a non-profitable charitable organization dedicated to the procurement and distribution of corneal tissue for transplantation. The National Eye Bank, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi is one of the oldest Eye Banks in India. They have brought the "Gift of Sight" to over 20,000 men, women and children. Loss of eyesight due to corneal disease compromises the quality of life of the individual. The corneal disease can be due to infections, injuries, chemical burns, malnutrition, congenital disorders and postoperative complications or infections. In most cases, lost sight can be restored through the surgical procedure of corneal transplantation from a donated eye. Eye Donation The National Eye Bank is situated at the centre and has an enviable voluntary donor list. A junior and a senior resident are available round the clock to collect eyes from the donors. This year 641 donor eyes were received and 463 keratoplasties were done. The eyes are also supplied to other keratoplasty units on demand Address : AIIMS Ansari Nagar, Delhi-110000 |
