In 2014, the Minister of Finance Arun Jaitley announced a budget of ₹500 crore (equivalent to ₹559 crore or US$87 million in 2016) for setting up 4 new AIIMS, in Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra and the Purvanchal region in Uttar Pradesh.

These four Phase-IV institutes are to become AIIMS Mangalagiri in Andhra Pradesh, AIIMS Nagpur in Maharashtra, AIIMS Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh and AIIMS Kalyani in West Bengal.

In the first phase, six AIIMS are being set up at Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh. 2 more AIIMS, one at Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh and the other at Raiganj, West Bengal have been approved in the second phase of Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).

Nineteen existing Government medical college institutions have been taken up for up-gradation for creation of super specialty facilities in the first & second phases of PMSSY.

M.Sc. Nursing: (a) Cardiological/CTVS Nursing, (b) Oncological Nursing, (c) Neurosciences Nursing, (d) Nephrological Nursing, (e) Critical Care Nursing, (f) Paediatric Nursing, and (g) Psychiatric Nursing.
