No, but you cannot take admission in MA English course in Delhi University even though you have completed B.Com from DU (Delhi University) as you do not fulfill the eligibility criteria needed for the admission.

Delhi University offers M.A (English) course through 12 colleges affiliated to the University. Admissions are carried out directly or on the basis of entrance test.

Eligibility Criteria for M.A (English) in Delhi University

Admission to the course is done through two methods, direct and entrance test.

Direct admission is offered for candidates who have completed B.A Honours degree in English from the University of Delhi.

They need obtain a minimum of 60% marks in the qualifying examination.

Reserved category candidates like OBC/SC/ST/PwD need to have 55% marks only.

Entrance test is conducted for those candidates having completed B.A Honours in (English) from Delhi University with a minimum of 45% marks.

Reserved category candidates with less mark can also take admission on the basis of entrance exam.

OBC candidates need to have at least 40.5% marks in the qualifying examination where as physically disabled ones needs to hold 40% marks only.

In case of SC/ST candidates, mere pass in B.A Honours degree (in English) is enough to apply for the entrance test.

Qualified candidates from other recognized Universities other than Delhi University can also apply.

In such situations general category candidates is required to have at least 50% marks in qualifying degree. Those belonging to OBC category should have a minimum of 45% marks.

Here also SC/ST category candidates, require mere pass in the qualifying examination to appear for the entrance test.

Admission Procedure for M.A (English) in Delhi University

Direct admissions are done on merit basis.

Those seeking admissions through direct method need to clear entrance test, as direct admissions will be subject to the availability of seats.

General category candidates need to score at least 40% marks in the entrance test to get through the same. In case of OBC and PwD candidates the pass percentage required is 36% and 35% respectively.

Entrance test is conducted for 90 minutes and is designed to evaluate candidate’s proficiency in English Language.

There will be three sections for the entrance test. First section comprises objective model questions of 60 marks.

Second section will be based on a passage of prose or verse and include questions for 20 marks.

Third section includes a short essay model question (based on a general literary topic).

This section also carries 20 to make a total of 100 marks for the whole test.

Admissions are done on the priority basis of marks obtained in the entrance test.
