Re: ACDF Surgery Recovery Time

After ACDF surgery to do some light work around the home is taking to recover the approx 3 month. After 3 month of surgery patients to do some light work.

Lifting items that weigh up to 10 pounds is now allowed. It’s still important to take breaks and rest if fatigue develops,

Recovery time can vary widely. Some patients are able to return to work within a few days or a week after surgery.

Others start physical therapy about four weeks after surgery, and continue for 2 or 3 months.

When and if the individual returns to work will depend largely on the patient’s recovery as well as the type of work performed.

Some may even be able to return to work as early as 3 or 4 days after surgery.

The surgeon needs to be consulted on when to return to work and if any work modifications are required.

In ACDF surgery the main potential risks and complications that could occur include:

Inadequate symptom relief after the surgery
Failure of bone graft healing to create a fusion (a.k.a. non-union or pseudoarthrosis)
Persistent swallowing or speech disturbance
Nerve root damage
Damage to the spinal cord (extremely rare with the advent of neuromonitoring)
Bleeding
Infection
Damage to the trachea/esophagus

Some other Surgical Recovery:

Anterior Cervical Decompression and Fusion Surgery (ACDF) Recovery
Artificial Disc Replacement (ADR) in Neck
Posterior Cervical Fusion (Including Posterior Cervical Decompression and Fusion)
Posterior Cervical Decompression and Posterior Cervical Foramenotomy
