Institute Of Higher Tibetan Studies Sarnath is essentially research oriented directing to produce talented mortals who can undertake such researches. There is a Shantarakshita library, only one of its like in India, having got rich accumulation of antediluvian Indian literature in creative Sanskrit manuscripts and Tibetan translations. The accumulations of the Shantarakshita library have been accrued in conformity with the aims of CIHTS, announced by the Government of India as an Institute of National Importance.
CIHTS initially operated as a special component wing of Sampurnananda Sanskrit University, Varanasi. The Institute furnishes an integrated course of nine years from Madhyama to Acharya by five modules. CIHTS is also a prime Research Institute, with a significant faculty of research scholars and many visitors from other academician Institutions in India and from around the global.
