Bengal Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Limited (BCPL) was founded in 1901, is a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) of the Government of India and is India’s first pharmaceutical company. Soon BCPW turned the first Indian Company of its sort to manufacture quality Chemicals, Drugs, Pharmaceuticals and Home Products, employing indigenous technology, skill and raw materials. The reputation of the Company started rising quickly, when Acharya P C Ray felt of providing more render in the Company to develop on a big scale. This idea passed to convert into a Limited Company and in 1901 the name of the Company was called as Bengal Chemical and Pharmaceutical Works Ltd. (BCPW), holding the same assumptions at 91 Upper Circular Road, Calcutta.
