Cochin University of Science & Technology (CUSAT) is a government owned independent university in Kochi (Cochin), Kerala, India. Launched in 1971, the university comprises of three campuses, two in Kochi and one in Kuttanad, Alappuzha, approximately 66 km inland. Admission shall be based on the marks in the qualifying examination, Departmental admission test, interview and experience. National Institute of Fashion Technology was launched in 1986 below the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. It has emerged as the prime institute of Design, Management and Technology, developing professionals for taking up leadership positions in fashion business in the emerging global scenario. The old name ‘Cannanore’ is the anglicised form of the Malayalam word Kannur. According to one opinion, ‘Kannur’ is a derivation from Kanathur, an ancient village, the name of which survives even today in one of the wards of Kannur Municipality.

The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) was founded as the first national institute for Post-Graduate studies and Research in Management by the Government of India in November 1961 in collaboration with Alfred P. Sloan School of Management (MIT), the Government of West Bengal, The Ford Foundation and Indian industry.
